Biography

Professor Weinstein was born in Philadelphia. She earned a Master’s Degree in health management and gerontology, a certificate in health administration, a bachelor’s degree in nursing and behavioral science, a nursing diploma from Pennsylvania Hospital (Philadelphia, PA) and is a graduate of the Kellogg Executive Management Program, Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) and a Fellow of both the American Academy of Nursing and the American College of Wellness. She is Adjunct Clinical Professor at the University of Illinois College of Nursing, Chicago and a member of the Advisory Board of Kaplan University College of Nursing. Sharon is an advisor to the Nightingale Initiative for Global Health and an authoritative spokesperson for stress management, nurse fatigue in diverse care settings, outcomes, safety, global health, and patient/staff engagement. She is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education approved Provider. Weinstein is an energetic, motivating and highly skilled consultant specializing in Life Balance, corporate training programs and motivational speaking presentations. Her background includes more than 35 years of experience as an educator and clinician in all settings in which care is provided. She has taught around the country and across the globe, leading delegations of infusion nursing specialists to diverse countries. A member of the American Nurses Association Fatigue Panel and a member of the American Society for Professionals in Patient Safety, Sharon is an advocate for safety reform. She is past president of the Infusion Nurses Society, past chair of the Infusion Nurses Certification Corporation, and she has published profusely.

Research Interest

Sharon is a proud Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. She is a graduate of the Kellogg Executive Management Program, Dean of Speakers Academy and President-Elect NSA-DC. In addition, she founded and serves as president of the Global Education Development Institute. Chief Learning Officer, SMW Group LLC, Sharon truly leads the field. Author of over 154 peer-review manuscripts, her articles have been published in The Toronto Globe and Mail, The CEO Magazine, American Mobile, College Xpress, Sassy Moms, Southeast Asian Women’s Health, Reflections of Nursing Leadership, Big Choice Group, Lifestyle Entrepreneur, Remarkable Woman Magazine, the Sierra Club, Advance for Nurses, the Washington Post, Natural Awakenings, Crain’s Chicago Business, and the American Organization of Nurse Executive’s newsletter as well as multiple business publications. Sharon has appeared on local media, including NBC news and been quoted in newsletters and journal articles. She is a consummate blogger and a regular contributor to HuffPost. She is the author of 12 books, including B is for Balance...12 steps toward achieving work/life balance, and Plumer’s Principles and Practice of Infusion Nursing, 9th edition (2014). She is also the author of Nursing without Borders: values, wisdom, success markers, and an international spokesperson for global nursing collaboration.
